What a pleasure to be back on Pimpin' Reads. And I should
warn Jowanna that Micah is watching very carefully to make sure she doesn't get
too excited over Io's book, which I'm here to introduce. He hasn't forgotten
the lovely time he had here when his book was introduced, and he can be a bit
territorial. Men!
So, let's get down to business.
Rebel Obsession is the third novel in my All the King's Men
(AKM) series, and tells the story of the ill-reputed playboy, Io, as he finds
himself lured out of his Casanova ways into uncharted territory: monogamy. As
you can imagine, for Io to discard his womanizing lifestyle, which he was quite
content living, takes a pretty special female. Enter the king's daughter,
Miriam. She's one such female, and not because of her royal connection. Io was
smitten with her even before learning she was the princess. Unfortunately, her
father stands in their way of being together, and when a rebel like Io goes up
against the king to stake a claim to his daughter, sparks will definitely fly.
But it sure makes for an entertaining story as we follow along and see how Io
will overcome the adversity King Bain represents to take what's his, Miriam.
AKM is a paranormal series, and my alpha and beta males are
vampires. In book one, Rise of the Fallen, we saw Micah Black battle his inner
demons to find his way back from the brink of hell to find his forever love (or
did we? Micah's story is still unfolding). In book two, Heart of the Warrior,
we saw Arion and Severin take on lies, prejudice, family, and painful secrets
to be together. Now, in Rebel Obsession, we see Io face his shameful past and
the realization that he's kind of a jerk as he takes on his biggest challenge
yet: himself. All to find love and friendship.
Rebel Obsession is an interesting addition to the series. It
was harder to write than the first two books. Much harder. The characters (both
Io and Miriam) were so filled with shame and confusion about who they were, I
struggled to get them to speak to me. However, once I embraced their shame and
confusion as actually part of the
story, things began to happen. It was as if they felt like I had finally heard
them and they began to open up. So, especially with Miriam, you see throughout
the story just how in the midst of an identity crisis she is. In a way, she has
to fight everyone to be heard, but when she has the floor, she's not exactly
sure what to say, because she's not entirely sure who she is, yet. With Io,
she'll begin to find out.
Another interesting point about Rebel Obsession is that it
came out feeling like a transitional piece, connecting the first two books with
the next books in the series. The main story is Io's and Miriam's, but there
are a few subplots taking place as other characters see their stories deepen,
partly in connection with Io's. For instance, we see Malek, who has been the
poster boy for logic and reason, begin to spiral out of control now that his
own painful past is beginning to resurface. We also see Trace's story deepen,
new characters enter the AKM world (and I can't wait to see what readers think
of Maddox and Cordray), and new enemies and their schemes take shape. However,
even though a lot is going on in this book, almost all of it ties together at
the end, and the subplots that are left open set up subsequent books very
nicely.
My editor has told me repeatedly that Rebel Obsession is her
favorite story of the series so far. She has read it over and over and loves it
every time, even crying a couple of times with each re-read. For me, when I
first drafted Rebel, I was not happy with the story, but through an intense editing
and rewriting process that lasted upwards of eight months and went through two
rounds of beta readers, I can now say I am extremely pleased with how the story
turned out. It was a labor of love, and was well worth every round of edits I
put it through.
I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I've enjoyed writing
it.
Here's an excerpt:
She swallowed heavily. His gaze drifted down
her body then back up to her face. Before, his scrutiny would have made her
self-conscious, but not anymore. She wanted him to look at her, because the way
his eyes glazed and he rubbed his lips together—slowly,
thoughtfully…hungrily—lit butterflies in her stomach. Sexy, lusty, wanton
butterflies.
"This is your first time." His words
carried portent, a promise hidden just under the surface that tonight would
forever change them. As he breathed, his gaze dropped to his fingertips as they
outlined the curve of her breast, caressing her like a feather. "It should
be special." His fingers skimmed down her stomach, his hands disappearing
under her shirt after a moment's hesitation. He inched the fabric up to reveal
her skin.
She lifted her arms, moving just as slowly,
and he tugged her shirt over her head before tossing it aside. It landed on the
floor with a soft thwump, and his
palms slid up and over her lace-covered breasts. His fingers played with the
scalloped edges of her bra as she reached around and unfastened it. The
material loosened, and his hands glided underneath and over her skin. She
tossed the bra so it joined her shirt on the floor.
Io seemed fascinated with her breasts, his
gaze following his hands as he massaged, squeezed, and caressed them.
"Are you okay?" she said.
Without lifting his gaze, he nodded.
"Yes. I've just never seen more perfect breasts, and to think they're
mine…they—you—all of you…you belong to me, and I belong to you. I just never
thought…." He trailed off.
"You never thought what, Io?" She
placed one of her hands over one of his.
He smiled, and this time his eyes lifted to
meet hers. "I never thought I would take a mate."
"And…? How do you feel about that?"
She smoothed her hand down his arm.
"I can't imagine ever going back to the
way I was. You're perfect, Miri. Perfect for me, and perfect in every
way."
She felt the same way. Everything about Io
screamed I'm your mate. He was bold
and outspoken. He took risks and went after what he wanted. He refused to be
intimidated by money, titles, or even her royal blood.
"Claim me," she said, whispering.
His gaze blazed hot, and his full lips parted
seductively. "Precious Miriam, make no mistake, your body will be fully
and well-claimed by morning."

Severin was born to be a warrior. Conceived as a mixed-blood
when his vampire father raped his dreck mother over two centuries ago, Severin
retained the power of iron skin inherent to newborn drecks. However, Sev keeps
this secret closely guarded. If it's discovered that inferior dreck blood flows
in his vampire veins, it could destroy his life. And to make matters worse, his
father suddenly wants to make amends for his transgressions. Sev wants nothing
of his father's apology, especially now, as he contends with both an assassin
who has marked Sev for blood vengeance and his obsessive attraction to his
teammate, Arion.
Arion is the son of King Bain's liaison, Gregos Savakis, who had
Ari's course plotted before he was even born. But what Ari's overbearing
parents wanted for him wasn't what Arion wanted for himself, and a lifetime
spent fighting through one relationship after another with females from all
walks of life has left him weary in his search for a mate. After a startling
and erotic encounter with Sev, Ari has begun to realize why. He's gay. And now
he can't stop thinking about Sev. Arion suddenly realizes he's been forcing
himself to be with females because that's what his parents expected. But what
he wants is a male, and not just any male. Arion wants Severin.
Can the two overcome the secrets, prejudice, plotting, and the
threat on Severin's life to find happily ever after with each other?

Author’s
Note: This is a novella supplement to the All the King’s Men series. It is
highly advised that you read Rise of the Fallen before reading this novella.
Reading book two of the series, Heart of the Warrior, would also be beneficial,
but not absolutely necessary before reading Micah’s Calling.
With the threat of Apostle behind him and Samantha’s life finally out of
danger, Micah’s mating phase, known as the calling, unfurls to full strength.
Unable to resist the demands of his body and the hormonal heat that drive him
to propagate the vampire race, Micah loses himself in the pleasure Sam gives
him, yearning for her body to receive his seed to create new life. But after what
Sam has been through – barely surviving Apostle’s venomous bite, and then
Micah’s own venom to counter Apostle’s and make her immortal – Micah knows
Sam’s body has suffered too much to accept a child so soon.
But the desire to nest and start a family isn’t the only thing Samantha has
awakened in Micah. She has also stirred Micah’s long-dormant love of
domination. With Sam, Micah finds himself longing to re-open his dungeon, and
Sam wants to know more about this kinky world she has heard so much about but
never tried. When Micah takes Sam to a scene party to introduce her to the BDSM
lifestyle, their lives are turned upside-down when Micah is asked to assist in
dominating a fellow dom's submissive, only to discover the submissive is his
friend, Traceon.
Throughout her journey in this new world Micah has introduced her to, Sam
begins to realize several hard truths about herself and what she wants. Will
Micah allow her to explore her new interests? And will the new direction in his
friendship with Traceon prove to be too much and break the bonds that have
begun to tie them to one another?
Micah’s Calling is a story of devotion beyond the level of friendship that will
light your imagination on fire.
Strong sexual content, voyeurism, exhibitionism, BDSM, knife play, mild mƩnage,
and much more.

Former
cobalt addict and AKM drug counselor, Io is a male vampire known as much for
his abrasive personality as for his playboy lifestyle. In other words, he's not
the likeliest to make friends and settle down. Life on the edge suits him, and
he lives full throttle, making his own rules, and damn the consequences. What
he wants, he takes, and what he wants now is Miriam. If only he can find a way
to see her again without getting himself killed, but her father stands in the
way.
Miriam is the daughter of the king. Strong-willed and defiant, she feels like a
prisoner in her own home and struggles to break free from under her father’s
oppressive hold. The king’s law surrounding Miriam is explicitly clear: No one
touches her. Period.
In a fit of rebellion, Miriam has turned to cobalt to find relief and freedom,
but now she’s a prisoner to addiction as much as to her father’s strict
control. What's more, she can’t get sexy Io, who tended to her so gently as she
recovered from her first overdose, off her mind. Will she ever see him again?
When Miriam overdoses a second time, she and Io are thrust back together, and
all bets are off. Seeing each other was the one thing both wanted, and not even
the king’s laws and threats of punishment will be enough to defuse their
rebellious obsession with one another now that they’ve found each other again,
even if the consequences are death.
