Angels and Demons
By: Gracen Miller

Where does the road to Hell begin?

“Hark the fallen angels sing, glory to the newborn King…”

Did you catch the difference in the stanza? Welcome to the world of the Road to Hell Series, where angels aren’t necessarily looking out for the good of mankind!

With good intentions?

Angels were believed to be messengers from God, as well as protectors of mankind, while offering them guidance. It is believed there are different levels of angels. The most lethal of the lot are archangels, which are God’s warriors. Many of us are familiar with God’s main messenger, Gabriel, who performs acts of justice for God. Most of us know his fiercest fighter, Michael, an archangel with a flaming sword. Two angels were sent to save Lot and his wife from the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. Angels visited other godly people in the Bible to guide them from whatever crisis was ongoing or about to occur.  But not all angels came with good intentions…

Or demonic design?

The Book of Enoch relates that 200 angels departed heaven and came to earth to marry and have children with human women. Some believe that their offspring are Nephilim and are the Giants from the David and Goliath story. Another accepted belief is that Lucifer was an angel, and he rebelled against God and led a revolt in heaven. We all know that Lucifer is now believed to be the devil or Satan, the one who rules Hell and tempts us away from God.

Hell’s become more than just a playground for the wicked…

But maybe legends aren’t as accurate as history would have us believe…

In a small, sleepy Alabama town the battle for mankind's liberty has begun...

What would you do if your son went homicidal overnight and you learn a demon has designs on your future? It wouldn’t help that your expertise isn’t in supernatural warfare or that you don’t even believe in God for that matter? And how would you handle it if your best friend sold his soul to the devil to save your life?

Madison Wescott from my Road to Hell Series isn’t going down without a fight. Growing up a Baptist preacher’s daughter, she knows all the ins and outs of Biblical scripture, she just stopped believing it all, discounted them as fairytales to keep people scared into righteousness. Discovering that demons are very real and have targeted her family, she won’t let that stop her determination to avoid the blueprint life has designed for her and her son. And when Nix sells his soul to save her life, she’ll do anything to save him, even open Pandora’s Box…but once you open it, there’s no turning back!

Pandora’s Box Blurb (book 1):

Where does the road to Hell begin?

What happens when your son turns homicidal overnight and your husband disappears on his way to work? Do you cower in fear or fight for your life? Madison Wescott fights against the odds. Distrustful of a God she doesn't believe in, she finds herself face-to-face with a world she didn't know existed and discovers her own soul is darkened with demonic connections.

With good intentions? Or by demonic design?

Phoenix Birmingham bursts into Madison’s life in a whirlwind of sarcasm and sexual appeal. A hero for the masses—and for her jaded heart—but few will ever know the sacrifices he has made or the sacrifices to come. Discovering her entire life has been influenced by multifaceted paranormal beings, Madison is determined to defeat the apocalyptic blueprint fate has decreed, but only one man dares to challenge the supernatural forces manipulating them. Even with Phoenix's aid, can destiny be denied? Or will demonic design prevail while they pay the crucial price with their souls?

In a small, sleepy Alabama town the battle for mankind's liberty has begun...

Hell’s Phoenix Blurb (book 2):

Hell’s become more than just a playground for the wicked…

Going to Hell was supposed to save Madison, but knowing she’s dead because of his failure leaves Nix with only one thing to live for. Revenge. With Micah’s help he learns to use his Messianic power. Anything for Mads has become his mantra, even if it means killing innocents to gather the power he needs to succeed. A tsunami he unleashes on a Gulf Coast city is stopped with magical interference, and Nix is more than surprised to feel Madison in the opposing magic. Can he and Micah set a trap to lure her out?

Pandora’s Box…once you open it, there’s no turning back!

Madison has done the unthinkable, opened Pandora’s Box to save Nix from Hell. And failed. She’s willing to risk her own life to rescue Nix, but she worries about the welfare of her accomplice in the mission and leaving her son behind. Following up on a lead, she’s ambushed by Nix and Micah. Shocked and hurt to discover Nix has become a willing participant of Hell, she’s more certain than ever she won’t escape the demonic fate her husband outlined for her. While in Hell, she discovers denying the emergence of her succubus is futile, which means getting Nix out of Hell after embracing her inner demon just became a very real dilemma…

NEPHILIM

By: Gracen Miller

Nephilim. Half-breed offspring, born from mortals and angels…biblical legends, giants, that jeopardized mankind. Welcome to my world where anything can and does exist, and new demons are spawned at random.

But Nephilim aren’t new, they come straight from the Bible.

When men began to increase in number on earth and daughters were born to them, 2the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. 3Then the LORD said, ‘My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is a mortal; his days will be a hundred and twenty years.’ 4The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown. Genesis 6:1-4

There are many theories as it relates to who and what the “sons of God” and the Nephilim are.

Theory One: The “sons of God” were fallen angels. Many believe that the Nephilim were what was thought to be the giants in the Bible because it was thought they were the offspring of angels and human women.

Theory Two: The “sons of God” were probably not human, not even born on earth. Ancient Aliens, anyone? lol

Theory Three: The “sons of God” were nothing more than righteous men, as opposed to the earthly non-righteous individuals during those sinful days before the great flood.

Theory Four: The “sons of God” are a hybrid race that is distinctly different from us humans, but sexually compatible with human reproduction. In any event, the “sons of God” are specifically set apart from the “daughters of men”, so they were obviously a separate race and their offspring were the Nephilim.

Theory Five: The “sons of God” were other created men. It is widely accepted by Biblical believers that Adam and Eve were the only humans first created by God. However, the Bible does not detail or describe every individual on earth, not even every important person on earth to Him. Only significant situations and the people involved with those situations are included in Biblical Texts. There is no certainty that God created only Adam and Eve. For all we know, he could have created a whole nation of people, but only Adam and Eve were important.

Off topic: I probably could have found more theories had I kept searching. I figured this was more than enough. ;-)

The book of Job suggests that the sons of God were angelic in nature. Job 1:6 “Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.” And again in Job 2:1, “Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the Lord.”

The Grigori were also considered fallen angels who had mated with mortal women, which gave birth to a hybrid race known as the Nephilim. In the Book of Enoch, the Grigori were known as the “Watchers”, which were angels that had been sent to earth to do nothing more than watch over God’s human creation. Enoch details how the Grigori began to lust after human women, marry them and lived among mortals. Their children were purported to be giant savages that endanger humankind by pillaging the earth. They were corrupt and taught the mortals the necessities of civilization that God had kept secret. According to Jude 1:6, God has bound the Grigori on the Earth until Judgment Day.

So, were the Nephilim the offspring of the “sons of God” and the “daughters of men”? Were these “sons of God” fallen angels on the side of Satan? Or could they be angels watching and living among us that have become fascinated and enraptured by God’s mortal creation, not fallen on Satan’s side, but just fallen from God’s celestial design?

Of course, all of this is assuming one believes in Biblical principles. What do you think?

The idea of Nephilim interests me, but instead of having “giants” represent Nephilim, I took a more unassuming approach in Pandora’s Box, book one Road to Hell series, available now through Decadent Publishing and your online e-book publishers (Amazon, Smashwords, etc.). Buy Links are available below.

Pandora’s Box Excerpt:

“May I?” He held up the medical supplies.

She nodded and watched as he doused gauze with antiseptic. “Dr. Nix at your service,” he said with a grin, two adorable dimples charming her where words failed.

Madison rolled her eyes, and tipped her head to the side to give him better access. He brushed her hair off her neck, back behind her shoulder. Such a simple gesture, yet it felt terribly personal. The air grew thick and sticky with her awareness of him. She shifted in her seat and crossed her legs.

Madison stared into his eyes. Green, she thought, his eyes were green, gorgeous and intense, with ridiculously long eyelashes women would fantasize about. If they didn’t, they should. A flicker of compassion, concern, and something else she couldn’t identify flashed in his eyes.

“Ready?” he asked.

The husky tenor of his voice forced her gaze to shift to his mouth. Nice, sexy lips, designed for kissing. She gave a mental shake but couldn’t resist wondering how his mouth would feel on hers.

“Madison?” Humor deepened his voice, a touch of a smile tilted the edges of the lips she’d been fantasizing about, and she realized she still stared at them. “You ready?” he asked again, and her eyes widened in embarrassment over her foolish stupor.

She swallowed hard. “Yeah.” She whispered past the lump in her throat and forced her vision to lock on the wall over his shoulder. Good God, what was wrong with her? Her pulse throbbed like crazy, and she felt woozy. Loss of blood! Must be why she reacted that way. No other explanation made sense.

Even though the antiseptic stung like hell, the gentle touch coming from such a gruff man surprised her. “It’s not bad,” he said, dabbing the blood away. “Just a nick.”

Well, she could nix the blood loss theory. Exhaustion and stress were the only other excuses she could come up with. “I’ve suffered worse.” Her voice sounded off, kind of hoarse. She tried to clear her throat delicately, but he must have noticed her unease, because his perceptive eyes met hers. Again, she thought she caught the edge of concern reflected in their green depths.

“This isn’t the first time he’s attacked you?”

“No. It’s the first time he’s tried to seriously kill me, though.” She sighed as she closed her eyes, ready to give up fighting, the sudden tears threatening to fall. Okay, woozy and acting strange because of strain…not because of him. Seriously, as far as first impressions went, she wasn’t impressed.
